On Tuesday, April 19, 2005, the Chicago Music Commission will host a kick-off party at Martyrs'. This first gathering of music industry professionals will introduce the Chicago Music Commission, a newly-formed non-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving Chicago's musical culture and illuminating it into the future.

The Chicago Music Commission is resolved to bringing the whole music community together, to be member driven, member supported, to coordinate music and related businesses to help raise Chicago's status as the best city for music in the nation. Among the Chicago Music Commission goals: To promote, support & showcase Chicago's rich musical heritage, To focus the world's attention on the experience of Chicago music, To create new business opportunities in the city, To connect and partner music business professionals with educational resources, Chicago city departments and each other. And most of all: to revere & spotlight our world-renowned musicians.
